Our unique after school programs are designed as intensive and creative multi-week studies of fine art media. Each week, students will spend two hours learning new processes and building on skills from prior classes for a deeper understanding of the art form as a whole. We combine education, fun activities, and hands-on skill-building to inspire children’s creativity.
**PLEASE NOTE OUR 2026/27 PROGRAM IS BROKEN DOWN INTO SEMESTERS** We have designed our after school program to give us more time to work with students to further develop their skills in fine arts. Creativity is not a linear process and we want to create space and time for the the students to work on their art. Our first and second semester of any given class will be thematically tied together, allowing students who attend the same day into the next semester to continue skill building from the prior session. These classes can still be taken separately, allowing new students join us halfway through the year or to accommodate schedule changes from continuing students.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to us and please read our CBK Policies and General Information page for any information regarding after school policies.
This year, we will offer four unique classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:30pm - 5:30pm (at this time, Wednesdays are only available to Charter School students with early dismissal). We will also be offering free school pick up again this year to the first groups with 10 or more sign-ups per location per weekday. You can find more information regarding this in the class descriptions below. Please remember slots are still limited for pick up so they will go fast!
We ask that you provide a small, allergen-free (NO NUTS OR PEANUTS ALLOWED) snack for after school, and provide a smock they can leave at the studio if you’re worried about their clothes getting messy.
*PLEASE READ ALL NEW INFORMATION REGARDING OUR AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES BELOW BEFORE REGISTERING**

TTrue innovators know that creativity can be found everywhere. In this unique science-meets-art class, students will explore the connection between experimentation, discovery, and artistic expression by using scientific processes to create original works of art.
Students will become both artists and inventors as they create their own materials from scratch, including paper, paint, chalk, and other creative mediums. Through hands-on projects, they will investigate how materials are made and discover that the process of creating can be just as meaningful as the finished artwork.
Inspired by the natural world and scientific principles, students will experiment with natural dyes, handmade clay, textile techniques, and unexpected artistic methods using everyday materials. They will create detailed botanical illustrations, explore concepts such as light and perception, and discover the science behind early photography by building and using their own pinhole cameras.
Each project encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and creative thinking, transforming scientific discoveries into unique works of art. Through exploration and experimentation, students will discover that science and art are deeply connected—both driven by imagination, observation, and the desire to understand the world around us.

From books, magazines, posters, and video games to animation and film, illustration is everywhere. In this engaging after-school class, students will explore the art of drawing, cartooning, and visual storytelling while developing both technical skills and creative confidence.
Students will begin by building a strong foundation in drawing through figure drawing, still life, shading, proportion, perspective, and composition. Working with a variety of traditional media—including graphite, charcoal, ink, colored pencils, pastels, and conté crayon—they will strengthen their observational skills while learning the fundamentals of illustration.
As the class progresses, students will apply these techniques to create expressive characters, comics, cartoons, and original illustrations. Through projects inspired by graphic novels, animation, and visual storytelling, they will explore character design, facial expressions, movement, and sequential art while learning how artists communicate ideas and tell compelling stories through images.
Whether creating imaginative worlds, designing memorable characters, or illustrating their own narratives, students will develop their artistic voice in a fun, supportive studio environment. This class is perfect for young artists who love to draw and want to expand their skills in both traditional illustration and cartooning

Discover the art of transforming clay into beautiful, functional ceramics in this hands-on studio class. Inspired by both historical pottery traditions and contemporary ceramic design, students will explore the creative process of making objects that are as practical as they are artistic.
Using both the pottery wheel and handbuilding techniques, students will learn essential ceramic skills while creating a collection of functional pieces such as bowls, mugs, plates, trinket boxes, wall hooks, desk organizers, and other everyday objects. Along the way, they'll develop an understanding of form, craftsmanship, and surface design as they experiment with texture, decoration, and glazing techniques.
Each project is thoughtfully designed to encourage creativity, build technical skills, and foster artistic confidence. All work will be professionally glazed and kiln-fired, resulting in durable, one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces that students will be proud to use and display for years to come.

Fine art extends far beyond paintings on gallery walls. In this imaginative after-school class, students will explore the exciting world of three-dimensional art by creating sculptures that pop out, stand up, twist, turn, and invite interaction.
Inspired by contemporary artists who challenge traditional ideas about what sculpture can be, students will explore the surreal forms of artists such as Genesis Belanger and Ron Nagle, along with the playful textile works of Hein Koh and Rachel Euema Williams. Through these artists, students will examine the use of organic, modern, realistic, industrial, and abstract forms while discovering new ways to express ideas through sculpture.
Students will design and construct their own “off the wall” creations using a wide range of materials, including clay, plaster, wood, textiles, found objects, and more. Through experimentation with form, texture, structure, and composition, they will develop creative problem-solving skills while bringing imaginative ideas into the physical world.
From unexpected materials to surprising sculptures, students will discover that art can be interactive, inventive, and full of possibilities. In Off the Wall, creativity takes shape in ways they’ve never imagined.
Our Homework Club provides students with a safe, creative environment for day-time art activities, and homework help! CBK Teachers would assist students with homework assignments and offer academically informed art activities during the day that can be scaffolded into our after school programming.
With dismissal times varying from school to school and with many of our students traveling from home, CBK is helping to fill that void with our Arts + Academics Homework Club! We will be offering our After School families the option to join us up to 3 hours earlier in the afternoon.
CBK’s Arts + Academics Homework Club would run from 12:30 pm until 3:30 pm followed by our After School classes. Our program is designed for flexibility allowing families to add this on as needed or opt to sign up for the full session with a minimum requirement of 1 hour participation for the day and up to the full 3 hours in the studio. Rate is based on hours and number of days selected, offering a discounted rate when you register for the full session.
We hope that this program will support the wonderful parents and kids in the CBK community with a flexible option for day-time programming as we navigate the school year.
**You must be registered for our After School program to join our Homework Club. To sign up use the register button provided in any of our after school classes listed above**

Our online classes will involve children using tools and materials in an active setting. We recommend that you supervise your child during these classes when they are using any materials we send in our art boxes. Our teachers and studio are not responsible for any injuries that may be caused during our virtual classes. Please read our disclaimer on our registration form before you sign up for classes.

CBK will be offering it's After School pick up services again for our fall session. For a school to be considered for a pick up we must know the distance and dismissal time for the school. As this is contingent on the walkability of the school’s location, as we will not be able to use public transportation during pick-up. If your school is approved for pick up we ask that the parents help to coordinate a small group of 8 kids or more. We will help to add to this number once a group has formed by reaching out to any families we know from the school. This service is on a first come first serve basis.
Additional safety guidelines:
-Masks are optional at this time
-Each week parents are required to fill out a student health questionnaire in order for us to pick up their child.
-Temperatures will be taken at the studio door upon arrival
There may be an additional fee charged depending on the schools dismissal time. We will let you know if and what this fee is once we gather all the necessary information. If you are interested in our pick up service please reach out to Rene@createdbykidsnyc.com.
If you have any concerns during class, please do not hesitate to reach out the owner Rene@createdbykidsnyc.com. We want this class to be a fun, positive experience for all and we are always here to listen and learn what works best for our families.
