ADULT CLASSES BEGIN SEPTEMBER 21!
A class where fantasy, imagination, and arxt collide. During this class the children will create their own art projects based on those imaginary, majestic worlds we all love and dream about.
Each child will be a character in their story as we discuss different types of fables, fantasies, and legends e.g Harry Potter, Wizard of Oz and Star Wars. The projects will cover everything from mixed media sculptures - influenced by artists such a Geoffrey Farmer & Clementine de Chabaneix - to clay potion bottles to intricate wands to handmade magic books and everything else they'll need for their fantasy world. With our imagination at the helm there's endless possibilities of art we can create!

Textiles date back to prehistoric times, when they were used as functional articles of clothing. During our textile arts week, we will be looking at textiles as an art form, exploring weaving, knitting, sewing, Shibori, and surface design.
Textiles are made when different fibers are woven together to create cloth or fabric. Using the basic technique of weaving, students will first build their own looms out of wooden slats. They will then interlace different colors of threads, yarn and strips of fabric developing different patterns, shapes and designs. We will mount their woven creations to make a beautiful wall hanging. Students will then create their own shirts when we learn about an ancient Japanese "tie-dye" technique called Shibori.
This is a process where fabric is compressed or bound by folding, stitching and twisting. The bound fabric is then dyed, creating unique shapes and patterns making a unique shirt they will never want to take off! We will learn about surface design creating our own prints on fabric, by painting with natural dyes and using resists such as wax and salt. Finally the children will create their own felt animals or creatures. They will sew and stuff their animals, adding an array of details and textures. Don't miss out on this new class, it's going to be SEW creative!

Students will learn the fundamentals of character development and technical concepts behind stop motion animation. We will brainstorm to create an original story and cast of characters for their films. Students will have a variety of materials such as clay, paint, found objects and construction paper to create their movable figures and sets.
During the filming process, we will explore the different ways to manipulate their character so it appears to move on its own, by taking one photo at a time. These photos will be added to a program, accompanied by the students recorded sound effects and voice to create a short film. Students will also learn about the beginning of animation, when they create their own flip books. At the end of the session students will be able to take home their movie poster, character, background setting and a copy of their film will be uploaded to Vimeo, where they can access it from any mobile device , where they can continue the story at home.
Created By Kids will be hosting a screening the last day of class. Parents are encouraged to join us the last 30 mins of class for some refreshments and the premier of your child's film. Let the creativity begin in 3-2-1- ACTION! ***returning students to this class will have the choice to make a sequel to their previous movie/movies***

Since the mid-1970's when E. Gary Gygax unleashed Dungeons & Dragons on the world, tabletop RPGs have captured the minds of everyone 8 to 80. Through many iterations and adaptations, the game has spread like wildfire and is now in it's 5th edition. Coupled with the rising interest in old gods and the recent flood of mythological fantasy / adventure young adult books (Percy Jackson, et al.) - Created By Kids presents our brand new after school program.
Throughout the semester, students will create their world and then produce a variety of art projects in different mediums inspired by their adventures. The students will create a clay polyhedral die shape box to hold all their gaming pieces in and a clay amulet to adorn their handmade adventure log book. We will study famous fantasy artists such a Frank Frazetta, Bernie Wrightson, Wally Wood, and Al Williamson as inspiration for watercolor scenes featuring our characters and their adventures.
The students will also create maps, alphabet/fonts, and character sheets all based on their adventures throughout the class. After building our characters, we'll also be playing a full campaign over the course of the class, it's time to unearth your inner artist!
